Le Lauchenkopf, Granite summit in Vosges Mountains, France

Le Lauchenkopf is a granite summit in the Vosges Mountains that rises to 1,314 meters between Metzeral and Sondernach. The mountain offers varied routes through dense forests and rocky terrain characteristic of the range.

The summit was under the control of Munster Abbey during the Middle Ages and appeared in Upper Rhine records as Inlochen in 1496 and Lauchensluck in 1738. These records show the area's long documented presence in regional territorial archives.

The Club Vosgien organizes regular guided hikes and educational activities around the mountain, teaching visitors about local flora and regional geography.

The hike can start from Schnepfenried ski station and follows well-marked trails with elevation changes. The route offers multiple starting points and allows visitors to choose different path options based on fitness level and available time.

The Grande Fecht river originates on the western slope of the Lauch massif and feeds the water system of the Munster Valley. This source makes the mountain an important geographic point for the local watershed.
