LAAC Museum of Contemporary Art, Modern art museum in Dunkirk, France.
LAAC Museum of Contemporary Art is a museum in Dunkirk housed in a white ceramic building that contains approximately 1,500 works of modern art, including pieces by renowned international artists such as Andy Warhol and César. The building features a sculpture garden and multiple exhibition spaces that rotate works from the permanent collection.
Painter Gilbert Delaine founded the museum's collection in the 1970s through partnerships with approximately 60 local companies to acquire contemporary artworks. This collaboration between art and industry shaped the institution's direction from its beginning.
The museum showcases both local and international artists within its galleries, and visitors can examine drawings and prints displayed in sliding showcases throughout the Graphic Arts Room. This space offers a close look at artistic techniques and processes that are often hidden in larger exhibitions.
The museum is located on Avenue des Bordées and operates during standard weekday hours, with exhibitions rotating regularly throughout the year. Visitors should confirm opening times before visiting and allow time to explore both the permanent collection and temporary exhibitions.
The institution forms part of Dunkirk's Contemporary Art Hub alongside the FRAC Institute, which enables regular collaborative projects between the two. Together they organize the triennial event GIGANTISME, which explores the relationship between art and industrial production.
