The Maison forte de Reignac extends inside a limestone cliff face, featuring multiple rooms carved into the rock with furnished chambers and passageways.
Dating from the 14th century, this fortified structure served as both a defensive stronghold and residence, maintaining its original architectural elements through centuries.
The castle houses an extensive collection of medieval torture instruments alongside historical documents that detail judicial practices from different periods in French history.
Tours of the castle occur daily from February through December, with multilingual guides and informational panels available in eight languages throughout the premises.
Visitors can explore the only complete troglodytic castle in France, which combines underground chambers with elevated rooms built directly into the natural rock formation.
