Majestic Passy, Movie theater in 16th arrondissement, France
Majestic Passy is an independent cinema at 18, rue de Passy in the 16th arrondissement of Paris, on the first floor of its building. It has three screens seating 318, 171 and 148, and the large room is fitted with a 13-metre panoramic screen. It is classified art et essai and shows films in original version with subtitles.
The cinema opened on 23 November 1937 as Royal Passy, with a 750-seat hall on the building's first floor. Renamed Broadway in 1977, it then held 460 seats and closed on 27 April 1982, becoming a fur shop called Fourrures de la Madeleine. Les Écrans de Paris bought it in 1994 and reopened it on 26 October 1994 with Pulp Fiction, in a hall fitted with a 13-metre panoramic screen.
It remains the only movie theater in the 16th arrondissement, serving as a gathering place where neighbors come together to enjoy films.
The cinema sits at 18, rue de Passy in the 16th arrondissement, reachable by metro line 6 at Passy station and line 9 at La Muette, plus several bus lines. It has three screens seating 318, 171 and 148. Regular "Ciné-ma différence" screenings are held for people with disabilities.
The cinema hosts "Ciné-ma différence" screenings for people with disabilities, along with Connaissance du monde lecture-films and meetings devoted to Hispanic cinema. For years critic Alain Riou ran a ciné-club here, and the venue held an art-house festival called Passy Paradiso.
