Ouvrage Otterbiel, Military fortification in Bitche, France
The Ouvrage Otterbiel consists of four combat blocks and one entrance block, connected through underground galleries with ammunition storage and command posts.
Construction of this Maginot Line fortification began in 1931, but budget restrictions prevented the completion of several planned artillery blocks and a dedicated personnel entrance.
The fortification represents French military engineering and defensive strategy during the pre-World War II period, incorporating advanced technologies of that time.
The fortification remains within the Bitche military camp, requiring special authorization and guided tours to access its underground network and observation points.
Three electrical generator groups powered the facility, each combining a diesel engine with an alternator to maintain operations throughout different voltage requirements.
