Neck de Sceautres

The Neck de Sceautres rises as a cylindrical basalt column measuring 200 meters in diameter and reaching an elevation of 540 meters above the limestone valley.

A medieval castle once stood at the summit of the neck until 1972, when it was replaced by a statue of the Virgin Mary marking the highest point.

This geological formation stands as the largest neck in Europe and exemplifies the volcanic heritage of the Massif Central mountain range.

Marked trails lead to the summit of the neck, providing panoramic views over other volcanic formations across the Plateau du Coiron region.

The gradual cooling of magma within the ancient volcanic chimney created basalt organs that remain visible along the neck's walls.
