Phare de l'Île Louët, Lighthouse on Île Louët in Carantec, France.
The Phare de l'Île Louët is a lighthouse situated on a granite island off Carantec in Brittany. The white stone tower stands approximately 17 meters tall and is topped by a red lantern room that remains visible from considerable distances across the water.
Construction of the lighthouse began in 1857 on the rocky island off Carantec. Lighthouse keepers maintained the facility continuously until its automation during the 1960s.
The lighthouse serves as a reliable navigation landmark for local fishermen and sailors in Morlaix Bay. It shapes the daily rhythm of maritime work and represents safety at sea for the region's inhabitants.
The former keeper's cottage was renovated in 2004 and now serves as holiday accommodation for up to ten people, equipped with solar power and running water. Reaching the island requires private or local transport, as visitor docking facilities are not available.
The lighthouse was long one of the few inhabited towers in this region and was maintained by successive generations of keepers. The island itself remains relatively accessible only under specific tidal conditions, preserving a sense of isolation to this day.
