Pointe des Estaris

Pointe des Estaris rises to 3086 meters in the Ecrins massif, a protected mountain range in the French Alps known for its rocky peaks and high-altitude lakes. The summit overlooks the Lac d'Estaris and surrounding valleys with sparse vegetation typical of this elevation.

The Ecrins massif became a National Park in 1973, protecting its natural areas and geological formations from development. This designation preserved the alpine landscape and its ecosystems for future generations.

Local shepherds maintain centuries-old pastoral traditions around Pointe des Estaris, contributing to the preservation of Alpine landscapes and heritage.

The climb from Auberts parking involves steep terrain and unmarked trails best tackled in full daylight conditions. Weather changes quickly at this elevation, so early starts and proper mountain gear are essential.

The north face holds permanent snow patches and boggy areas around Lac de Prelles that persist even in summer months. These wetland zones support specialized alpine plants found nowhere else in the surrounding region.
