Bridge of Mirabeau, Girder bridge in Jouques and Mirabeau, France
The Mirabeau Bridge is a reinforced concrete girder bridge spanning the Durance River between Jouques and Mirabeau. The structure stretches 175 meters across the river valley and rises 14 meters, supported by substantial pillars that anchor the roadway.
The bridge was completed in 1989, replacing earlier versions including one from 1845 that was destroyed during World War I. The new structure incorporates the original foundations while restoring the link between the two municipalities.
The bridge received official recognition as a monument historique inscrit on July 6, 1988, preserving its architectural elements for future generations.
The bridge sits on the Route de la Durance toward Manosque and handles regular traffic between the two locations. It is accessible via local roads and provides a direct crossing over the river valley.
The bridge stands in the Canteperdrix gorge, a narrow section of the Durance valley that served as a crossing point since Roman times. This historical passage made the location significant for generations of travelers.
