Chapelle Saint-Estève

The Chapelle Saint-Estève is a small chapel with a straightforward design: a single nave, a semicircular apse, and a barrel vault supported by pilasters. The varied profiles of these supporting elements give the interior its distinctive structural character.

The chapel was built between the 11th and 12th centuries during a period when the lands around Rians were divided between two noble families. This era shaped both the religious life of the region and its settlement patterns.

The chapel served the local community's spiritual needs, with worshippers summoned to services by the sound of shells used as trumpets rather than bells. This practical solution reflects how rural communities adapted to limited resources.

The chapel stands near an old medieval path that once connected to Jouques and passed close to Revelette and its water sources. This route reveals the place's role as a waypoint in a larger network.
