Montagne des Ubacs

Montagne des Ubacs is a summit located in Bouches-du-Rhône between two larger mountain ranges and rises to about 700 meters. The peak displays clear contrasts between the sunny southern slopes and the shadier, cooler northern faces.

The region has long been inhabited by people who deliberately settled on the warmer, south-facing slopes. This settlement pattern demonstrates how the mountain's orientation shaped where communities chose to build their lives.

The term ubac describes the shaded northern slope where less sunlight reaches and plants grow differently. Visitors can observe these vegetation contrasts as they explore the different sides of the peak.

A road crosses through the northern pass, making the peak accessible by vehicle. Visitors should note that the shaded north side remains cool while the southern slopes warm up during the day.
