Roc de Frausa, Mountain peak at French-Spanish border in Pyrénées-Orientales, France and Girona Province, Spain

Roc de Frausa is a mountain peak rising to 1,421 meters on the border between France and Spain in the Pyrénées-Orientales. The summit displays rocky slopes with rough stone surfaces that characterize the terrain between Céret and Reynès.

The name Roc de Frausa comes from the Latin word 'fraga' meaning rocky cliff and was renamed to Roc de France during the 19th century. This change reflects the French and Spanish influences that have shaped the region over centuries.

The mountain forms a shared landscape between French and Spanish communities that have long maintained connections across this border zone. Local residents view it as a natural bridge between their regions rather than a dividing line.

The summit can be reached via marked trails starting from the three municipalities of Céret, Reynès, and Maçanet de Cabrenys. Each approach offers different difficulty levels and views, so choosing a route in advance helps with planning your hike.

Natural caves along the hiking paths once served as shelters for Catalan smugglers known as trabucayres. These hidden spots played an important role in trade operations along this remote border region.
