Tour Apogée, Unrealized high-rise project in 13th arrondissement, Paris, France
Tour Apogée was a planned high-rise building designed to combine offices and apartments south of Place d'Italie in the 13th arrondissement. The project never came to completion and the site is now occupied by the Grand Écran building.
The building permit was canceled in 1974 when President Valéry Giscard d'Estaing opposed tall structures in central Paris. This decision shifted the direction of urban development and led to stricter limits on high-rise construction.
The cancellation of Tour Apogée marked the end of an era for skyscraper construction within central Paris, shifting urban development patterns.
The location is easily reached by the Place d'Italie metro station and sits in an area with good transport connections. The neighborhood offers cafes and shops, making it simple to combine a visit with other activities.
A colorful mast and transparent arch now mark the original site as an entrance to the Italie 2 shopping center. These structures serve as a visual reminder of the cancelled project.
