Tour EDF Lyon, High-rise building in Part-Dieu, Lyon, France.
Tour EDF Lyon is an office tower in the Part-Dieu business district of Lyon, built with a concrete facade and a rectangular form typical of 1970s urban development. It now stands alongside a newer adjacent structure that has altered its original outline.
The building was completed in 1977 as a regional headquarters for the French energy company EDF, and it was one of the first towers built in the then-emerging Part-Dieu district. EDF eventually left the premises, but the building continued to function as office space.
The tower stands in the heart of the Part-Dieu business district, where office buildings, a shopping center, and a train station all sit close together. It is part of a skyline that makes the neighborhood easy to spot from a distance.
The tower sits directly next to Part-Dieu train station, which is easy to reach on foot and served by several metro and tram lines. The surrounding area is dense, but streets around the station are clearly signed.
The Silex2 project added a new tower on the northern side of the building, clad in a glass facade that contrasts noticeably with the original concrete structure. The two buildings are now connected and form an unexpected pair when seen from street level.
