Tour UAP Lyon, Office tower in Part-Dieu district, Lyon, France
Tour UAP Lyon was an office building in Part-Dieu, the modern business district of Lyon. The structure featured 25 floors rising approximately 74 meters, making it a recognizable point in the city skyline.
Completed in 1972 by architects Abro and Henri Kandjian, the building embodied the growth of Lyon's business center during the early 1970s. It stood until 2012, when demolition began to make way for the Incity Tower project.
The structure derived its name from Union des Assurances de Paris, reflecting the strong presence of insurance companies in Lyon's economic development.
The building was located at the corner of Lafayette Street and Garibaldi Street in the heart of the business district. After sitting vacant for many years, its demolition in 2012 prepared the site for future development.
The 2012 demolition employed an innovative top-mounted metal structure with white protective sheeting to shield nearby residents from dust and noise. This approach demonstrated how modern controlled demolitions are executed in densely built neighborhoods.
