Tour de l'Horloge, Medieval clock tower at Palais de la Cité, France
The Tour de l'Horloge stands 47 meters high with thick stone walls and features a square dial decorated with golden rays on an azure background.
Constructed between 1350 and 1353 under King Jean II le Bon, the tower received Paris's first public clock in 1370, crafted by watchmaker Henri de Vic.
Latin inscriptions on the clock face reference the crowns of contemporary kings and display philosophical statements about the nature of justice.
The clock tower is accessible through Metro Line 4 at Station Cité, with numerous bus lines stopping near the Palais de la Cité complex.
The clock mechanism includes bronzed copper hands with detailed designs, set against a background that has maintained its medieval characteristics through centuries.
