Villa cheminée, Art installation and hotel at Bouée, France
Villa Cheminée is an art installation and hotel featuring a cylindrical concrete tower with a residential pavilion positioned at its top. The tower stands about 15 meters high and creates an unusual fusion of artwork and overnight accommodation.
The work was created in 2009 by Japanese artist Tatzu Nishi as part of the Estuaire contemporary art exhibition along the Loire River. This exhibition positioned the region as a venue for artistic experimentation and new creative thinking.
The structure echoes the appearance of industrial smokestacks from the nearby power plant, yet transforms this concept into a livable retreat. This blend between rough industrial forms and comfortable residential space shapes how visitors experience the place.
The accommodation can be booked through the Nantes tourism office, with rooms available for single travelers or couples. Reservations should be made well in advance since availability is quite limited.
The structure sits where the Loire River meets its Cordemais branch, offering views of both industrial facilities and natural river landscapes simultaneously. This unusual location connects two completely different worlds in a single spot.
