Pic des Souffles

Pic des Souffles is a mountain summit in the Massif des Écrins with an elevation of 3,099 meters (10,167 feet) that dominates views when entering the valley. The peak features rocky slopes and sharp ridgelines characteristic of the high Alps in this region.

Local mountain guides first developed climbing routes on this peak, establishing paths that later became important for alpine activities in the valley. These early efforts laid the foundation for the mountaineering traditions that developed across the Écrins region.

The mountain stands within Parc national des Écrins, where outdoor activities reflect the strong connection between French alpine communities and mountaineering traditions.

The climb is challenging and requires experience with rock and ice climbing techniques along with proper gear. A mountain refuge nearby serves as a useful base for longer expeditions in the surrounding region.

The mountain maintains a position as number 13 among 544 peaks in the Parc national des Écrins, with a notable prominence of 437 meters.
