The Église Saint-Fructueux is a church building from the 17th century with a square bell tower topped by double roofing that creates a distinctive silhouette. Inside, three levels of wooden galleries line the walls, creating a tiered effect that frames the central nave space.

The church was built in the 17th century on the site of an earlier church, in the Labourd style, without a transept. It is oriented southwest to northeast, measures 38 metres long by 15 metres wide, and its square bell tower rises 20 metres. The whole building was inscribed as a monument historique in 2014.

Until the early 1970s the three tiers of wooden galleries on three sides were reserved for men, while women and children sat in the nave below. The choir walls are clad in polychrome woodwork, and among the listed furnishings are a painted and carved pulpit, a 17th-century statue of Saint Catherine and a 1719 tombstone.

The church stands in the village of Itxassou, overlooking the Nive valley on the road to the Pas de Roland, in the French Basque Country. It is reached from the Bayonne diocese parish of Saint-Michel-Garicoïts. Inside, the wooden galleries run along three sides on three levels; until the early 1970s they were reserved for men, while women and children stayed in the nave.

The baroque altarpiece features twisted columns and carved vine leaves in remarkable detail, revealing the level of woodcarving skill that existed locally in the 17th century. The statue of Saint Fructueux himself, holding his episcopal staff, represents a regional saint whose name and presence few visitors might recognize.
