Église Sainte-Marie-Madeleine

Église Sainte-Marie-Madeleine is a Gothic church in Domont featuring a hemicycle apse with an ambulatory and three elevation levels throughout its interior. The building blends early Gothic elements with Romanesque influences and developed over several centuries.

Construction began in the middle of the 12th century when the parish was established in 1142 and continued through the 15th century. This extended building process allowed different architectural styles to merge together over time.

The church holds numerous tomb slabs of the Villiers-de-l'Isle-Adam family, with knights shown in armor and their coats of arms carved into stone. These monuments reflect the family's deep connection to the local community across many generations.

The church stands at Place de l'Église in Domont and is easily accessible on foot from the town center. After complete restoration work between 2002 and 2004, the medieval structure is well preserved and visitors can clearly see the architectural details.

The church contains one of the oldest ambulatories without radiating chapels in the Île-de-France region, a rare architectural feature. This design follows patterns from Sens Cathedral and demonstrates an early approach to this type of space.
