Hôtel Camusat, 18th-century private mansion in Troyes, France.
Hôtel Camusat is an 18th-century private mansion featuring a central building with two wings projecting toward the street in the Louis XV architectural style. The composition displays the classical proportions and formal garden arrangement typical of wealthy residences from that period.
Jacques Camusat commissioned the construction of this residence between 1723 and 1727 for his son, who eventually became mayor of Troyes. The period of building coincided with a time of growing wealth and importance for the trading city.
The first-floor rooms display original wooden wall panels from the 18th century with decorative scenes of romance and courtship. These details reveal how wealthy families adorned their private spaces and what themes mattered to their taste.
The building is located on rue Audiffred and has been converted into twelve residential apartments ranging from 36 to 122 square meters. While the exterior architecture can be viewed from the street, access to the private interior spaces may be limited.
The main staircase features original curved decorative railings from the 18th century paired with Versailles-style flooring containing black decorative stones. This level of craftsmanship detail is uncommon to find so intact in residential buildings today.
