Punta dell'Oriente

Punta dell'Oriente is a mountain summit in Haute-Corse that rises to 2112 meters and offers views in multiple directions. Looking westward, visitors see the Gravona River valley, while to the east lies the Fium'Orbu valley.

The peak became a natural boundary within the Parc Naturel de la Corse, created in 1971 to protect the island's mountain lands. This designation marked a turning point in preserving the region's natural environment.

The mountain holds meaning for local mountaineers who maintain trail markers with yellow signs and stone cairns to guide visitors through the terrain. These marks connect hikers from the telecom antennas down to the Bergeries des Pozzi shelters.

The hike begins at the Col de Vizzavona parking area at about 1163 meters and passes through forested sections and scrub vegetation. The ascent takes roughly four hours with approximately 1000 meters of elevation gain, so visitors should bring proper gear and be in good shape.

The summit has four distinct high points that together form a shell-like shape, composed of rough granite rock. This textured stone provides climbers with natural grip when scaling the peak.
