Punta Scaldasole, Mountain summit in Bastelica, France
Punta Scaldasole is a mountain summit in the Monte Renoso range located on the island of Corsica. The peak stands at approximately 2100 meters elevation in the Corse-du-Sud region and can be accessed through marked hiking trails.
The mountain landscape was sculpted by glacial activity during the Ice Age, leaving visible traces today. The lakes and wet bog areas that exist here are remnants from that ancient frozen period.
The hiking paths around Punta Scaldasole cross protected areas that showcase the natural mountain heritage of Corsica.
The hike departs from Val d'Ese ski station and follows clearly marked paths all the way to the summit. Most hikers take 6 to 7 hours for the full round trip, so an early morning start is recommended.
Below the summit lie wet bog areas known as pozzi, which harbor a special plant community adapted to these conditions. These meadows originated from glacial lakes and form a limited ecosystem today between roughly 1700 and 2300 meters elevation.
