Belle-Hôtesse

Belle-Hôtesse is a mountain in Pointe-Noire, Guadeloupe that rises to 752 meters in elevation and offers expansive views across the Caribbean Sea and surrounding forests. The peak features five basic shelters that accommodate up to ten people each, equipped with tables, benches, and spaces designed for hammock use.

This mountain had minimal visitor infrastructure until comprehensive renovations of the shelters occurred in 2015 and 2016. Those construction projects significantly improved conditions for hikers and made the location a better resting place for outdoor activities.

The traditional shelter structures on this mountain reflect local building practices that serve hikers with practical protection. These huts show how travelers and locals use this place as a vital resting point during mountain journeys.

The shelters are unmanaged facilities without staff presence, so you should bring your own equipment and prepare for self-sufficient hiking. Water collection tanks are available, but you must treat the water before drinking by boiling or using purification methods you bring with you.

A surprising detail is that hammock installation is specifically encouraged and supported here, pointing to a local preference for this traditional sleeping method. This practice makes the site stand out since most mountain shelters elsewhere typically favor tents or shared sleeping areas.
