La Sambue

La Sambue is a mountain summit in the Vercors Massif that rises to 1459 meters. The terrain features steep slopes and rocky outcrops that create the distinctive mountain landscape of this region.

The summit served as a reference point for local shepherds since the Middle Ages as they moved their flocks across alpine pastures seasonally. This long history of use shaped how people interacted with the mountain landscape.

Local mountain communities maintain centuries-old traditions of gathering medicinal plants and herbs from the slopes of La Sambue.

Hikers reach the summit by following marked trails, with the ascent taking about three hours. Starting early and being prepared for changing mountain weather conditions is advisable.

The summit contains rare limestone formations that create natural shelters, providing protection for various alpine plant species.
