Pic du Cap Roux, Hill summit in Saint-Raphaël, France

The Pic du Cap Roux is a summit near Saint-Raphaël, in southern France, rising to around 1,480 feet (450 meters) above sea level. The ground is red and rocky, typical of this volcanic massif, dotted with low shrubs and small plants growing between the stones.

The hill rises to 453 m, 346 m above the surrounding land, within a wooded massif of Aleppo pine and cork oak above the coast. The summit of Mont Vinaigre, at 614 m, lies 8.6 km to the north-northeast, and Cannes is 13.7 km to the southwest. The wooded slopes around the peak are managed as forest.

The Pic du Cap Roux is a popular outing spot for families and groups from Saint-Raphaël, especially on weekends. The trails are well marked, and many visitors stop on the rocks to take in the view over the coast.

The trails to the summit are well marked and can be reached from several starting points, including Saint-Raphaël and the Plateau d'Anthéor. It is best to go early in the morning or late in the afternoon to avoid midday heat, and to carry enough water.

On a clear day, the view from the top stretches all the way to the Mercantour massif with its snow-covered peaks, even though the sea is much closer. The red rock underfoot comes from ancient volcanic activity, which gives the whole massif its characteristic color.
