Pointe de l'Ecorchoir

Pointe de l'Ecorchoir is a mountain summit in the Fiz Massif that reaches 2328 meters (7,637 feet) in elevation. The peak sits amid limestone rock formations and grassy slopes that offer views across the surrounding Alpine peaks on clear days.

The peak was documented by French military cartographers during the 1800s as part of a surveying program for mountain regions. These early mapping efforts contributed to the systematic understanding of the Alpine area.

A marked trail leads from Chalet de Criou to the summit in roughly three hours, passing through a rocky limestone area. The route is most accessible during warmer months and requires sure footing on uneven terrain.

An extreme athlete launched a wingsuit flight from this peak in 2011, one of the early demonstrations of this aerial sport. The event established the location as a destination for daring aerial pursuits.
