Rocca Negra

Rocca Negra is a mountain summit in the Valle Stura region of the French Alps that rises to 2,771 meters. The slopes feature rocky terrain with steep drops and varied ground patterns typical of high Alpine geography.

The summit region once hosted a military installation at around 2,550 meters that served as an observation post for monitoring border activity. This outpost reflects the area's strategic importance during earlier conflicts.

Local mountaineering groups maintain detailed records of ascents and climbing routes, contributing to the regional outdoor recreation documentation.

The hiking route starts from Pianche village and covers approximately 15 kilometers with around 1,180 meters of elevation gain. Sturdy footwear and good fitness are needed for this challenging ascent.

From the peak, visitors can see multiple mountain ranges including Beccas del Corborant and Malaterra spread across the horizon. Mountain sheep regularly graze on the surrounding slopes, adding life to this high Alpine setting.
