Théâtre de l'Olivier, Theater in Istres, France
The Théâtre de l'Olivier is a performing arts venue in the center of Istres, in southern France, with a seating capacity of around 580. The stage is large enough to host theater plays, concerts, dance performances, and circus shows, and the interior has been fitted with modern lighting and sound equipment.
The building has its roots in the early 20th century, when it first served as a casino and public gathering hall before opening as an entertainment venue in 1934. It was converted into a theater in the 1970s and has since been renovated several times to improve comfort and facilities.
The name of the Théâtre de l'Olivier comes from the nearby pond called the Étang de l'Olivier. Local schools and associations regularly use the venue to organize performances and workshops, making it a gathering point for people of all ages.
The theater sits in the center of Istres and is easy to reach on foot, as it is close to shops and cafes. Parking is available near the Town Hall, and the box office is generally open from Tuesday to Saturday.
Every February, the theater hosts the Festival of the Arts of the Geste, a festival dedicated to performances built around movement and physical skill. After certain shows, visitors can also join an informal conversation with the performers during what the theater calls an Aperitif with the Theater.
