L’Ombrière du Vieux-Port de Marseille, Reflective canopy structure at Old Port, France.
The steel mirror canopy extends 22 meters by 48 meters across the port, supported by eight posts rising six meters from the ground.
The structure opened in March 2013 as part of Marseille-Provence European Capital of Culture program, transforming the Quai de la Fraternité.
British architect Norman Foster designed this modern installation that captures daily life reflections of the port area through 120 polished panels.
The canopy provides shelter for visitors waiting for boats to Château d'If and Frioul islands while functioning as a meeting point.
The mirrored ceiling creates an inverted view of the harbor, boats, and pedestrians, changing throughout the day with different light conditions.
