Moulin Sourdon, Windmill in Fontvieille, France.
Moulin Sourdon is a windmill in Fontvieille built from local limestone blocks and positioned on a stone platform above the Provencal landscape. Its cylindrical stone structure rises from the countryside, offering clear views across the surrounding terrain.
Built in 1790, this mill was one of four grain-grinding mills in Fontvieille that operated in the area. Over time it lost its roof and rotating wings, becoming known as the fallen mill.
This mill is part of a group of historic mills in Provence that shaped local grain-milling traditions. Visitors can see today how these structures fit into the landscape and what role they played in the region's daily life.
After its 2015 restoration, the mill functions as an observation point with views across the Provencal countryside. The best time to visit is during early morning or late afternoon hours when the light is most favorable for views and photographs.
Beneath this mill runs an underground Roman channel from the 1st century BC that leads to the Valley of Arches. This ancient water course reveals how Roman engineers used this area for water management.
