Poil, Nièvre - Château de Thil, Medieval fortress in Poil, France
The Château de Thil features an ovoid enclosure that incorporates both a seigneurial stronghold and a lower courtyard with defensive structures.
The castle's first documented mention dates to 1016 on a Flavigny map, with Miles de Thil establishing a priory near the fortress in 1007.
Catherine and Perceval, professional theater performers, acquired the castle in 2007 and founded the theater company Les Enchanteurs de l'an Mil.
The castle remains closed to visitors throughout 2024, but interested individuals can receive updates through the castle's newsletter subscription service.
The current owners examined approximately 1500 medieval ruins across France before selecting Château de Thil as their restoration project.
