Musée des Confluences, Science and anthropology museum in Confluence district, France
Musée des Confluences is a science and anthropology museum in the Confluence district that spans multiple levels and offers different exhibition areas on the origins of life, species diversity, and human societies. The collection combines objects from natural history holdings with exhibits that shed light on contemporary topics.
The museum was recognized as a Musée de France in 2011 and opened its doors for the first time in December 2014 as part of a major redevelopment of the Confluence district. This opening marked the relocation of collections that were previously housed elsewhere.
The museum displays collections that explore connections between human societies and the natural world. Visitors can see how different cultures have understood nature and science, and what meaning these insights hold today.
Access is convenient from Quai Perrache and the building is easy to navigate, as the different exhibition areas are clearly structured. Plan at least 3 to 4 hours for a visit to explore the extensive collections at a comfortable pace.
The building itself was designed as an architectural artwork and features a distinctive crystal-like metallic form located at the confluence of the Rhone and Saone rivers. This special architecture makes the museum remarkable not only for its collections but also for its visual presence in the city.
