The Cité internationale de la gastronomie et du vin is a convention center, educational institution, and tourist attraction in the heart of Dijon, built around food, wine, and culinary traditions. The site brings together old buildings from the former Dijon hospital and modern additions, housing exhibition spaces, restaurants, shops, a cinema, and workshops.
The site was home to the Hôtel-Dieu, Dijon's main hospital, for centuries before it was converted into a cultural center. The early-16th-century Chapelle des Climats and the Chapelle Sainte-Croix, built in 1459, still stand as reminders of that long history.
The site sits where two French UNESCO recognitions meet: the French gastronomic meal and the vineyards of Burgundy. Walking through, visitors find shops selling regional products like mustard, cheese, and chocolate alongside tasting sessions and hands-on cooking workshops.
Many exhibitions are free to enter, but some workshops, guided tours, and special events require booking in advance. It is worth checking what is scheduled for your visit, as the program changes regularly throughout the year.
The site houses a wine shop called the Cave de la Cité with around 3,000 wines from across the world, of which more than 250 are served by the glass. It is one of the few places in France where such a wide range can be tasted on the spot without committing to a full bottle.
