La Réserve Paris, Palace hotel on Avenue Gabriel, 8th arrondissement of Paris, France

La Réserve Paris occupies a six-storey cream stone building at 42 avenue Gabriel, on the corner of rue du Cirque in the 8th arrondissement. Its symmetrical facade has rows of rectangular windows with shallow balconies enclosed by black wrought-iron railings, a slate mansard roof pierced by dormer windows, and a decorative iron balustrade above the top floor. A tall arched entrance with a red surround contains dark doors, with a smaller rectangular doorway beside it.

The building was constructed in 1854 during Baron Haussmann's redevelopment of Paris and was occupied by the family of the Duke of Morny, half-brother of Napoleon III, until 1888. An insurance company then owned it until 1991, when couturier Pierre Cardin bought it and opened the Résidence Hôtel Maxim's, which closed in May 2009. Michel Reybier acquired it that year and had it rehabilitated; the hotel reopened on 19 January 2015 and received the Palace distinction in 2016.

The hotel's restaurant, Le Gabriel, holds three Michelin stars under chef Jérôme Banctel. A second table, La Pagode de Cos, serves revisited international cuisine, also offered in La Bibliothèque Duc de Morny, named after the duke's family who lived here until 1888. The bar is called Le Gaspard.

La Réserve Paris stands at 42, avenue Gabriel, on the corner of rue du Cirque in the 8th arrondissement, a short walk from the Champs-Élysées and the Triangle d'or. The entrance is the tall arched red door at the centre of the cream stone facade; a smaller rectangular doorway sits beside it. The building has a seventh level below ground, where the wellness area was fitted during the renovation.

The building was bought in 1991 by couturier Pierre Cardin through his company Capucines, and he opened the Résidence Hôtel Maxim's there; it closed in May 2009. The next year businessman Michel Reybier bought it and had it fully restored, keeping only the facades and a few major elements such as the main staircase, which was dismantled and rebuilt. A second, mainly technical basement level was added during that work.
