Qernertuarssuit, Northern settlement in Avannaata, Greenland
Qernertuarssuit is a small settlement in the municipality of Avannaata near Disko Bay in northern Greenland. It sits in a region with extreme Arctic conditions and sparse permanent habitation.
The settlement became part of the newly created municipality of Avannaata in 2018 following an administrative reform. It was previously part of the Qaasuitsup municipality.
Residents speak both Kalaallisut and Inuktun in daily life and follow hunting traditions. These languages and practices shape how people interact and work in the settlement.
Access to the settlement is limited and heavily dependent on weather conditions throughout the year. Visitors should prepare for long, extreme winters and very brief summers.
