Avannaata

Avannaata is a municipality in northwestern Greenland that stretches from ice sheets to Baffin Bay, encompassing numerous coastal settlements. The territory combines frozen landscapes with a dramatic shoreline where small towns sit between rocky shores and open water.

The municipality was created in 2018 through the division of the former Qaasuitsup territory, with Ilulissat becoming its administrative center. This reorganization reshaped how the region is governed today.
