Kangiqtualuk Uqquqti

Kangiqtualuk Uqquqti, Arctic fjord in Qikiqtaaluk Region, Nunavut, Canada.

Kangiqtualuk Uqquqti is a fjord in the Qikiqtaaluk Region that stretches for more than 100 kilometers from north northeast to south southwest. The waterway is bordered by towering granite cliffs that rise sharply from the water and frame the entire valley.

The valley was carved out during the last Ice Age by massive glacial movement, which created its distinctive deep channel. This glacial carving also produced the vertical rock walls that define the landscape today.

The fjord holds significance as a traditional Inuit hunting ground, providing essential resources for local communities through generations.

Reaching the fjord requires careful planning and is typically achieved by boat or aircraft departing from the settlement of Clyde River. Visitors should prepare for changing weather conditions, as Arctic conditions can shift unpredictably.

Roughly 50 kilometers from the fjord's mouth stands a massive rock face whose wall drops nearly 1400 meters straight down into the water. This remarkably steep feature ranks among the highest cliffs of its kind in the Arctic region.
