Schinias Marathon National Park

Schinias Marathon National Park is a protected natural area along the Attica coastline featuring sandy beaches, wetland zones, and pine forest sections. The different habitats create a varied landscape that spreads across the coastal region with distinct ecological features throughout.

The area received national park status in 2000, establishing official protection for this important coastal landscape. The designation reflected Greece's commitment to preserving the ecological diversity of the region.

The rowing and canoeing center built for the 2004 Olympics sits within the park and continues to host athletes today. The facility was designed to fit into the landscape without disrupting the natural surroundings.

The park is open year-round without admission fees and offers options for hiking, swimming, and bird watching activities. Bring sturdy shoes and binoculars to make the most of exploring the natural features and spotting wildlife.

The wetlands support more than 150 bird species, with 30 of them protected by European regulations. These shallow water areas serve as breeding grounds for many migratory and resident species.
