Kulosaari, Residential island district in Helsinki, Finland
Kulosaari is a residential neighborhood on an island in Helsinki connected to the mainland by bridges. The area combines contemporary housing with traditional Finnish design and provides waterfront access on multiple sides.
The area began developing as a villa district in 1907 and was incorporated into Helsinki as a municipality in 1946. This merger marked a major expansion of the city toward the eastern waterfront.
The neighborhood is home to schools serving both language communities and reflects the bilingual tradition of the region. Many residents use the proximity to water and parks as part of their daily routine.
The district has a metro station and bus lines that reach the city center in about 10 minutes. The island is flat with good paths for walking and cycling.
The Itäväylä highway divides the island into two sections, creating an interesting contrast between the quieter eastern quarters and the more active western side. A bridge connects the island to Mustikkamaa, where visitors can explore forest trails and beaches.
