Lieto Church, Medieval stone church in Lieto, Finland.
Lieto Church is a grey stone structure standing beside the Aura River with a neo-Gothic brick addition from 1902 and a bell tower from 1766. The building combines medieval foundations with later architectural elements added across different periods.
Construction of the church took place between 1470 and 1480 as one of the notable medieval religious buildings in Southwest Finland. Later alterations transformed its appearance and brought it into more recent centuries.
The interior holds an altar painting from 1908 showing Jesus and a woman, reflecting how Finnish artists approached religious themes. This work shapes the visual character of the church space today.
Visiting is possible Monday through Thursday from 10 AM to 6 PM, while weekends are reserved for religious services. It is advisable to check the exact opening times in advance since events can affect access.
The bell tower holds three bells, including two historical pieces from the 18th century and a newer replacement from 2005. All are controlled by an electronic system that merges traditional use with modern technology.
