Boričevac, Rural settlement in Donji Lapac, Croatia.
Boričevac is a rural settlement in the municipality of Donji Lapac, in Lika-Senj County in northern Croatia. It sits on elevated terrain and is made up of a handful of small hamlets scattered across the surrounding hills.
The settlement was more populated during the 19th century, when it was divided into four distinct hamlets. Over the course of the 20th century, residents gradually left, following a pattern common across rural areas of this region.
Farming and animal husbandry remain central to daily life in this settlement, shaping how residents interact with the landscape. These long-standing practices define the rhythm and identity of the small community.
A private vehicle is needed to reach the settlement, as public transport connections in this part of Lika-Senj County are very limited. Roads on the higher ground around the area can become difficult in winter, so checking conditions before you travel is a good idea.
The fact that this small area once held four separate communities living side by side gives a sense of how active local life once was here. Today, very little trace of that internal division remains visible on the ground.
