Rmanj Monastery, Serbian Orthodox monastery in Martin Brod, Bosnia and Herzegovina
Rmanj Monastery is a structure with white stone walls and traditional Orthodox architectural features, built at the location where the Unac and Una rivers converge. The complex includes chapels and residential buildings typical of monasteries in the region.
The monastery was founded in the late 15th century and served as the seat of a major church metropolitan during Ottoman rule. This role made it a religious and administrative center during a challenging period.
The place serves as a center for Serbian Orthodox worship, drawing pilgrims who participate in liturgical services or view the religious artworks displayed inside. The daily routine of the resident monks shapes the rhythm of the site and keeps it functioning as an active spiritual community.
The site is located near the village of Martin Brod and is easiest to reach by driving through the village itself. The monks offer guided tours upon request and assist visitors in understanding the site better.
After the conflicts of the 1990s, unexploded ordnance lay buried on the grounds, which military personnel systematically removed in subsequent years. This recovery process reveals the deep mark that warfare left on the region.
