The Saint Ignatius Church stands on an elevated square, featuring a grand staircase modeled after the Spanish Steps in Rome and decorated with intricate frescoes.
The construction of this religious edifice began after the 1667 earthquake and continued until 1725, following designs by architect Andrea Pozzo in the characteristic Jesuit style.
The church and its adjacent square serve as performance venues during the Dubrovnik Summer Festival, connecting religious architecture with contemporary artistic expressions.
Religious services in English take place every Sunday at 11:00 from June through September, allowing international visitors to participate in worship activities.
The church bell tower contains the oldest bell in Dubrovnik, cast in 1355 by craftsmen Viventius and his son Viator, predating the current structure.
