Koljane

Koljane is a small rural settlement in inland Dalmatia, situated in Split-Dalmatia County near Peruća Lake. The village spreads across a sparsely populated area with natural landscape features that characterize the region.

Archaeological excavations uncovered a 9th-century church at Crkvine, revealing evidence of early medieval settlement in the area. The discovery of Carolingian weapons and burial sites suggests the region was once an important location in the broader medieval landscape.

The village is home to the Serbian Orthodox Dragović Monastery, which continues to serve as a spiritual center for the region. This religious site reflects the diverse faith traditions that have shaped the area over centuries.

The village lies roughly 15 kilometers from Vrlika and can be reached through the local post office network. As a small settlement with limited facilities, visitors should plan ahead and seek local guidance for navigating the area.

An altar partition discovered here stands among Croatia's most complete surviving examples from the early medieval period. Its elaborate stone carvings and decorative details offer rare glimpses into the artistic skills of that vanished era.
