Avas TV Tower, Television tower on Avas hill, Miskolc, Hungary.
The Avas TV Tower is a 72-meter concrete structure on a hilltop in Miskolc featuring an observation deck. This deck provides views across the entire city and the surrounding mountains and valleys.
The tower was designed in 1966 by architects Miklós Hofer and György Vörös to replace an older structure destroyed during the 1956 Revolution. Its construction was part of the city's rebuilding efforts following those events.
The tower shares its hilltop location with a Gothic Protestant Church, creating a visual dialogue between modern construction and medieval heritage. Visitors encounter two distinct architectural eras side by side on the same elevated ground.
Visitors reach the observation deck via an internal staircase and enjoy views across the city, mountains, and valleys from there. The best time to visit is during clear weather when visibility extends far across the landscape.
The tower survived periods when strategic locations in the city faced pressure, becoming a symbol of local resilience. Its slender form and height make it the most distinctive point on Miskolc's skyline.
