Mágor-puszta

Mágor-puszta is a protected grassland and archaeological site covering 947 hectares along the former floodplain of the Sebes-Körös River. Two prominent mounds rise 9 meters above the surrounding terrain, creating distinctive landmarks across the flat landscape.

Excavations between 1968 and 1988 revealed settlements spanning the Neolithic through Bronze Age periods. The work also uncovered remains of a 10th-century monastery constructed by the Csolt family.

The site displays artifacts from different eras in a converted wine cellar dating back to 1812. Visitors can see objects spanning from prehistoric times through the period of Turkish occupation, offering insight into the area's long history of habitation.

An educational trail of 500 meters connects natural and historical sections across the site. Designated areas for group activities and cooking facilities are available for visitors.

The monastery walls contain decorative elements found exclusively in medieval Hungarian royal constructions. These rare ornaments provide clues about the site's high status during its period.
