The Jókai Theatre building features a grand ballroom with caryatids, pilasters, and an auditorium that accommodates 640 spectators across multiple levels.
Construction of the theatre began in 1877 under architect Andor Halmai's design, with its official inauguration taking place on March 8, 1879.
The theatre established its permanent ensemble in 1954 under the name Békés Megyei Jókai Színház through the Ministry of Education and Culture.
Located along Andrássy Avenue beside the Fiume Hotel, the theatre presents regular performances throughout the year with modern lighting and stage systems.
Originally known as Vigadó, the theatre building was constructed using public donations and featured Venetian mirrors and inlaid parquet flooring.
