Wenckheim Mansion, Neo-Renaissance château in Szabadkígyós, Hungary
Wenckheim Mansion is a Neo-Renaissance building constructed as a unified complex with four interconnected sections and a total of 52 rooms spread across multiple stories. The structure features numerous windows and entrances positioned throughout, providing access to different areas of the large property.
Renowned architect Miklós Ybl designed and built this residence between 1875 and 1879 for the Wenckheim family during the Austro-Hungarian Empire. The building reflects the ambitions and prosperity of the nobility during that era.
The mansion served as an agricultural technical school from 1945 to 2011, educating generations of students in farming and food industry practices.
The building has undergone extensive renovation and now operates as a museum open to visitors interested in Hungarian nobility heritage. The layout with multiple entrances allows visitors to navigate flexibly through the different sections and rooms.
The grounds surrounding the mansion were protected as early as 1954 and are now part of Körös-Maros National Park. The park combines French formal garden design with English landscape style, offering visitors a tranquil setting to explore.
