Pécs Synagogue, Romanticist synagogue in Kossuth Square, Pécs, Hungary

Pécs Synagogue is a Romanticist building with curved domes that rise above Kossuth Square and a thoughtfully designed interior. Inside, the rooms feature painted ceiling sections with intricate patterns and Hebrew inscriptions on the walls.

The building was designed in 1865 by three architects for the Reform Jewish community and completed in 1869. It survived the 20th century and remains one of the few Jewish structures in the region that stayed intact.

The synagogue was once the heart of the Jewish community in Pécs and continues to shape how the city square looks and feels today. Walking through it, you can sense the presence of a community that left deep roots in this place.

The building can be visited, though opening hours are limited and change depending on the season. It is best to check current availability in advance, as the space is sometimes used for events.

Inside are the original organ and wooden seating from when the building was completed, unchanged for over 150 years. These original pieces give the space an authentic feeling from the time it was built.
